Are they deliberately trying to get rid of the "Old TImers"? (re "generation")
by hamsterbait inthe vast majority have been sucked into the witchtower babble and trash cult over the last 25 years.. this constant rehashing and contradicting of the "generation " teaching is bound to drive significant numbers of the pre 1985 -"ish" witlesses away from the kingdumb hells, much as "1925" drove away vast numbers who might yet undermine "jug" rutherfords efforts to secure his power.. they will then be able to make major revisions of what to us older ones seem like core doctrines, which will be lapped up like iced cream by those who only have the perspective of the 21 century litterature.. this is too obviously deliberate.
its not like some tiny side comment:.
when the gibbering buddy wants some embarrassing thing to go away, blondie has pointed out many examples, they stop talking about it.. with this change they are rubbing peoples noses in it, slapping them round the head so they dont miss it.. and who are "gasping" at the co talks?
-
Room 215
The "older ones" may be, as you say, "deeply invested" but it seems to me that with each passing year, they're taking some of their chips off the table, tuning out the latest rhetoric, treating the latest radical directives with "benign neglect" and using the KH much as nominal churchgoers do, as a social insitution.....

Witness movie "Heritage"
by exwhyzee indoes anyone remember seeing the witness movie called "heritage" ?
it was made in the early 60's and they used to show it once a year at the kh when i was a kid.
(with guilty minds, we were secretly glad to see the projector set up in the middle section of the hall because it meant we didn't have to sit through another long boring talk.. even as a little kid i could see the one sided propaganda basicaly showing how empty "worldly" peoples lives were compared to ours and if you were a witness your family life would be idyllic like on "leave it to beaver".

Room 215
I remember it very well; it was directed by Timothy Galfas, filmed in Bergen County, NJ, mostly in and around Hackensack, with a lot of my school friends in it. I would love to see it, as I'm sure from this vantage point it would look mostly comically dated..... "Happy Days" WT style!

Stealing Watchtower's Thunder
by belbab instealing watchtowers thunder.
jw freak posted this years convention program and the release of a new book about jeremiah.
i am starting this thread to focus only on the release of the book about jeremiah.

Room 215
I betcha it's nothing more than a warmed-over rehash of a series of WT articles on Jeremiah done in 1979-1980; there's nobody there even remotely capabale of approaching Freddie's unique brand of fantasmagoric exegesis. That's why the recent convention releases have been so simple-minded and avoided any semblance of spiritual depth: song books "God the creator," Bible atlas, on behavior manipulation, and so on. They're running out of spirtual gas, if ever they once had it.

For JWs Who Now 'Smell The Coffee:' A Survival Mechanism
by Room 215 infor those of us lucky enough to have shed our rose-colored glasses, but still want to maintain relationwhipes with family and friends still entangled in the borg's web, a pragmatic approach, akin to, but less radical than "fading": just slip out to the periphery, treat the kh as one would a church, i. e. show up once in a while, make the occasional comment (ideally without compromising your real convictions and, better yet, worded as to provoke a bit of thought without raising eyebrows); being politely but non-commital, and, after a few "so longs," go home after the closing prayer.

Room 215
Thanks for all the insights, folks. In my case, I view it as part of my duty to my wife, kids, grandkids, all of whom I have to accept partial responsibility for as far as their being involved....thankfully, all of them are comfortably on the periphery, i.e., career and education-oriented, playing organized sports, honoring Mothers and Fathers Days, going and then not going to meetings, etc. , etc. ... they treat JWism are more or less like their religion, aren't judgmental about non-JWs......in short it's their "religion" ..... they regard as "fanatic" any effort to guilt them into "doing more" and are adept at politely tuning it out.

generation teaching reconsidered
by inbetween inwas thinking about this new generation teaching, and to some extend it makes sense, let me explain.. first of all, i personally believe, it only applied to jesus time, it only made sense there, and when jesus talked about it, in the year 33, this generation certainly observed the events leading to jerusalems destruction 70 ce.
( even though the context does not really give much hint, since he talks about the sign of the son of man being seen in heaven etc, something that did not happen in the first century).
the main question is, what is a generation ?.
-
Room 215
In general usage, what comes to mind when people refer to "The Greatest Generation," the "Baby Boomer Generation", "Gen X", etc. .... are these all overlapping or melding it one massive "generation" or do they connote a specificity to a group of people born, and likely to die, within a relatively short span?
